One question. What’s the biggest thing you’ve learn about creativity? Ryan Leak answers: “Creativity is a lot like music. People like all different kinds. Creative doesn’t mean people like it.”
My take: Have you ever wandered around iTunes for a couple hours? I do every month or so. I do it to see if I discover anything cool. I usually don’t. In fact, I usually find the worst music ever. “How does this stuff sell?!”
The point is, everyone has something that someone will like. Just because your mother, friends, co-workers, and animals don’t like your music doesn’t mean someone else won’t.
You probably have a bigger audience than you think. They just don’t know about you yet. The key to reaching that audience, though, is to create. Keep at your work. Do it for the love of the work.
And don’t be ashamed to share it with the world. You might find a few haters who hate your “thrash rock art”. But the only way you’ll reach the people who will appreciate your work is through creating. So create!
About Community Pool:
These posts are all about drawing from the creative community. Every creative has a unique perspective. When we share in others’ perspectives our own creative lens gets wider. So I ask one simple question of creatives. I share it with you, then I unfold it.
