The Bible says to pity the fool that walks alone. I’m paraphrasing the MRT Version. But the road to creativity is a scary one. It’s not good to walk it alone.
Creativity deals with deep parts of our soul. When we put ourselves out there and get rejected it can hurt–deeply. That’s why it’s important to have someone you trust that can help you walk the road.
This is especially important if you are the “boss of your creativity.” If you’re ultimately responsible for everything you create, you run the risk of ruining your own work. So find a friend you trust who will be blunt and honest with you. Find someone who loves you to challenge you. To edit you. To inspire you.
Find someone who wants to help you fulfill your vision to coach you through your creation. Even Michael Phelps has a swimming coach. The coach is a fraction of the swimmer Michael Phelps is…but Michael wouldn’t be where he was today without him. We all need a coach if we want to reach our full potential.
Who do you have in your life that could coach you? Start meeting with them. Ask for their honest feedback. Listen to them. It might hurt at first as they’re honest, but you need that feedback. And “the wounds of a friend can be trusted.”
