I just published the 25th issue of Sunday| Mag on Saturday. Yep, I’ve now been doing this thing for over two years.
With the new issue, I launched a redesign. It wasn’t just a facelift. It was in preparation of a new asset joining me in making it happen.
On Monday, I welcomed Scott McClellan on board to help me make the project even better. You might know him as the previous director of Echo, who I took over for when he stepped down. I began chatting with him about the option quite a few months ago, and was excited when he said he’d love to join me.
In preparation for working together, we had a pretty lengthy Skype chat. I laid out all my vision for Sunday| Magazine. I also shared some stress points and things I wished I could make better.
Having worked on Collide Magazine (one of the things that inspired my starting this mag), Scott had a load of wisdom to offer. So many of his suggestions were such simple things, but they were things I couldn’t see. I was too close to the project to realize what I was missing.
Thank God for people who are smarter than me!
I’ve relied so much, in all my projects, on resourcing the knowledge and skills of people far smarter and more skilled than me. I think it’s the only reason I get to do what I get to do today.
A wise man chooses to work with even wiser men.
Do you work with people who know more than you? Or are you the smartest ant in your colony? I guarantee you won’t grow if you’re the smartest person you know.
Find someone you admire who’s more skilled than you…and find every excuse to work with them. You’ll grow. I guarantee it. And you’ll get to do amazing things.
Conference? Eh? Eh?!
