Did you know that inflammable means flammable? Why’s this of any consequence?
Typically, the prefix “in-” means “not”. Inconceivable means not conceivable. Incompatible means not compatible. Shouldn’t inflammable mean not flammable? How confusing is that!
If you weren’t aware of this, you might see a gas container labeled “inflammable” and think nothing of playing with a pack of matches in close proximity. (I frequently practice the art of flicking matches.)
The point? Sometimes we limit ourselves to rules, not realizing they might not apply to our situation. Rules have exceptions. Don’t be bound by rules.
