So, lately, folks have been hating on my blog. It’s not like they leave a trollish comment or anything like that. They just criticized me by posting something on their timelines. Mind you, they’re my “friends”. So I see them hating on my blog posts. But they don’t have the decency to tag me in their hatings. I suppose they think I won’t see it. I do see it.
At first I was sort of ticked off. Then I felt the desire to defend myself to them. Then I accepted it. But now I embrace it.
I’ve said this frequently: if people aren’t criticizing you, you aren’t doing anything worth doing. But this was the first time I actually felt like bullets were flying my way. It’s much easier to say what I said than to live what I said. But now I choose to live what I say.
If you are doing something worth doing, people will criticize you. It deserves repeating over and over. Criticism is a sign that you’re headed down the right path.
I’m not saying you should offend and seek out criticism. I’m saying you should do what you feel passionate about. If the criticism comes, consider that an added bonus. Even if it’s your “friends” criticizing you, you can be sure it’s a good thing.
People love the status quo. When you start to shatter that comfortable bubble, people feel threatened. They want to attack you – to stop you from messing with their bubble. Don’t stop. Keep jabbing that proverbial needle into the bubble.
The world needs less comfortable bubbles and more revolution.
Another clue that you’re doing something worthwhile is that people are willing to come alongside your vision to help you see it through. You’re “voice” in the 21century church is important. The way church is being done is shifting dramatically. Having a guide, a constant, a pillar a available for leaders to check themselves with is needed. I believe what you’ve endever to do with your blogs and mag is that guide.
thanks so much! that’s such a big encouragement! 🙂

It’s worse when you aren’t giving people a reason to talk about you. No publicity is bad publicity

Hey Man
being criticized is something I am trying to learn how to take. I commend you for learning to embrace it. I think the point you make about taking criticism as an added bonus will help me change my perspective. Thanks for this post!
You got it! 🙂

What idiots!
That is a good point though: the added bonus thing. There are always guys out there that think music should be exactly as they think it should be and anything different is just wrong! So, it’ll be good for me to keep in mind =)
