I can follow my dream because you won’t follow yours.
Everyone has a dream. Imagine if everyone actually made theirs come true. The world would be filled with astronauts, presidents, artists, and billionaire tycoons. Who would do the everyday tasks that make the world work?
Obviously it’s impossible for everyone in the world to follow their dreams. But the beauty of that fact is that it keeps people from even trying. In fact, I can be sure that enough people aren’t following their dreams that I can follow mine.
There will always be enough people satisfied with the status quo that I can reach for the stars. The world won’t fall apart if I don’t do “my part”. The status quo will always be there. It will always be working like a machine. That’s taken care of.
I’m free to follow my dream.
It’s the tragedy and beauty of dreaming. If everyone followed their dreams nobody could follow their dreams. It would be nearly impossible for any of us to reach our goal. But the fact that so few people follow their dreams makes it possible for me to follow mine.
The same’s true for you. There’s room for you to follow your dream. The ball’s in your court. Will you?
I agree that God doesn’t waste opportunities – they get handed off to others who’ll answer the call – but I refuse to believe He didn’t create enough openings for everyone to fulfill His purposes for them. We’re not here by accident.
I see what you’re saying. But I still hold fast to the fact that the world couldn’t handle a population full of astronauts.
Perhaps God’s will for our lives is more an outlook and lifestyle rather than a path. Many paths can accomplish God’s will…
But it’s obvious that the majority of the population gives up on their dreams.
I think it’s a matter of being careful what we reach for… if a dream doesn’t line up with what God has in mind, achieving it will not matter anyway. I know folks that reached their lofty goals, only to crash and burn in the emptiness of it all. But the folks who keep their eyes on eternity – regardless of their measurable progress toward their dream – just keep on trucking.
Very true! I don’t disagree with a single thing you said there. 🙂

I hate to get on a soap box here, but I will, at least, this time. I definitely here what you are saying with regards to following your dreams. The biggest issue I’m having now, as of late (as if I didn’t see it coming), are people asking me “do you get paid for it.” I mean, just because its a dream, doesn’t mean you have to see the price tag first. If that was the case, many wouldn’t even dare work as hard to accomplish their dream.
@Kendall – That’s pretty typical of the average dream-thief.
Unless they’ve invested money in your dream and expect a return on their investment… or they’re monetarily supporting you until you are profitable… that’s really none of their concern now, is it? 😉
For real man. Some of the best dreams in the world won’t compensate you. Mother Teresa made a dream come true…but wealth had nothing to do with it.
