You’ll see on the left side of my blog, here, the projects I publicize. These are my pet projects that bring in the majority of my income. But I bet you didn’t know I have more projects than these. I actually have quite a few that nobody even knows are mine.
They’re experiments. I try something just to see if it works. I thought I’d share a few of the projects I have started that have been a complete waste of time. Then I hope to show you that perhaps they weren’t as much of a wast of time as they might seem.
Project 1: Mega Life Hacks
I started a Twitter account with non life hacks. These are meant to be humorous and to make people a little mad. So far, nothing’s come of it. But I’ve been learning a bit about humor in the process. I’ve also been forcing myself to think creatively. Here are a few for your enjoyment:
Project 2: Worship JV
This is a satirical worship leading blog I started a year or two ago. It actually got quite a few views and comments. My goal was to create a persona that totally missed the point of leading worship. It was both rhetorical and fun. And many people missed the joke…which if course is awesome. Among the most brilliant points in the blog:
- Solo Deo Gloria — the concept that God gets glory in awesome guitar solos.
- The top ten worst worship songs…
- How to hack playing acoustic guitar.
Again, this taught me a bit about subtle humor and forced me to think about worship leading in a new way.
To be honest, there are quite a few other projects I’m working on. Some are even secret because the people I’m working with want me to keep them under wraps. But I love trying new things and stretching my creative muscles. It’s scary…seems like a waste of time every now and then… But it’s teaching me and broadening my skill set.
What extra projects are you working on? Care to share?
