Let me introduce you to are revolutionary concept: irreducible complexity.
The eye is one of the most complex parts of the body. But did you know that every piece of the eye is necessary for its function? It’s irreducibly complex. If you removed an element from the eye it would cease to function.
Have you ever built a model car–only to find there were pieces left over? Model cars are not irreducibly complex. Model cars make great hobbies, but not great art.
Do you create “model cars”, or do you create “eyes”? Easy art is bloated with superfluity. Amazing art may be compex…but it’s irreducibly complex.
Remove everything from your art that isn’t necessary for its function.
I do this a lot when I work on graphics. When I’m through with a graphic, or have a cool, complex feature, I’ll go through shutting off layers to see what changes. Occasionally, I’ll come across a layer that, when shut off, changes nothing. So I delete it! I do this mainly for efficiency, but it ties into this concept as well.

That could definitely apply. 🙂
