There are two types of failure. Failure you learn from, and failure that’s resistance. Sometimes failure means moving on. But sometimes you need to fight for your creativity.
Kathryn Stockett’s bestselling book, “The Help“, was turned down 60 times before finally being published. Not only was it rejected, but it was hated on by some publishers. She got letters like:
- “There is no market for this kind of tiring writing.”
- “Story did not sustain my interest.”
After a couple rejection letters like this, I would probably curl up in a fetal position and weep uncontrollably. But she kept going. She reworked and edited. She pushed through the resistance.
60 rejection letters meant nothing. Only 1 letter mattered. Number 61…the acceptance letter. Are you willing to be rejected 60 times to create something memorable? Do you have the persistance and the conviction to create something awesome?
