I have newfound clarity. My calling.
We live in a world where traditional art structures are dissolving. Recording artists no longer need the record industry to distribute their art. Movie makers no longer need huge budgets and studios to produce their work. Authors can self-publish or give their work away for free.
That means there are innumerable artists infusing society with their work. There is noise. Everything wants your attention and it’s hard to know what art is good and what art is simply noise.
It’s a quickly changing landscape. And as the traditional art structures dissolve a new niche emerges: the need for curators.
People need someone to help them find what is good. They need someone willing to wade through the noise and pick the best from the chaos. Curators are the new successfuls in this new artistic landscape. It’s the record/publishing/music industry in reverse.
The art is there. But someone needs to come alongside it and help it get exposed to the world. This is my calling. I want to find the good and help it get where it needs to get.
Clarity. Do you know what roll you’ll be playing in this new artistic world order? You need to start discovering if not.
To be completely honest, being kind of a “curator” of cartoons, comics and illustrations is kind of my hobby. For a while, though, I tried to make it my career and I realized that I couldn’t do that.
Its more fun for me to post and discuss on my blog site(s) and address it there anyways.
I mean, just a few days ago, I talked to an older gentlemen and sold to him the idea and privilege to watch, at least once, “Phineas and Ferb.”
Talk about a gift from God, right!?

love it. that’s a fun calling.
my calling is to connect people with opportunities and celebrate them.
in the process i’m allowed by God to do so many different and exciting creative things. he keeps adding to my resume and i love it.

Some quick thoughts before I board my flight…
First off, I love this & totally agree.
I identify with being a curator more than an artist. & one could say that curating is an art in & of itself, and I would agree with that statement.
But what makes a curator a good one? One that has authority and respect ? Anyone can curate just like anyone can create art…but the talented ones will rise to the top.
I wouldn’t segregate curating from making art. I think a good curator is also an artist in some area of his/her life. You can’t simply talk about art with authority unless you are yourself involved in making art.
I think looking at art through that lens helps the curator to keep a more human, realistic perspective…rather than an ivory tower perspective…which is both intimidating & boring.
Good stuff bro.
