Every now and then I’ll go to the “Discover” section of Instagram. I’ll stumble on someone whose profile is the epitome of cool. They’re always at the coolest beaches, drinking the coolest coffees, or watching the best concerts.
It’s a lie. Well, maybe they really do those things. But if you look at only the snapshots on their Instagram or the updates on their Facebook, you miss a lot. You miss how they spend thirty minutes at the beach trying to find the right filter and getting the right angle for the shot. You miss that they spend the majority of their time at those cool locations trying to make others jealous instead of simply enjoying them.
To be honest, if those people really had the lives their profiles seem to indicate, they’d be too busy to share it with you. You wouldn’t see any of it.
Even the most seemingly glamorous among us—celebrities. The times we see them in the tabloids are most often when they’re out grocery shopping or trying to figure out what underwear to buy. Most people’s lives just aren’t that exciting. We all deal with the same monotony and the same boringness.
But I’ve found the key to getting everything out of this boring life we live. It isn’t about trying to frame it in the best possible way. It’s about enjoying the moments you have. Enjoy the weather…roll down your windows. Enjoy that Chestnut Praline Latte without feeling like you have to share it with everyone. Cuddle with your spouse instead of looking through your Instagram feed and being jealous of what others have.
There’s a lot of good to live, but you’ll never experience it if you’re jealous of others. You only experience it by living it. So let’s live it. Let’s live the good.
