When was the last time you saw a brilliant invention and thought, “I could have done that.” Probably yesterday?
It’s an extremely common sentiment. We see something so brilliantly simple and realize that’s well without our reach to create something like that. Yet we didn’t. Why is that?
Obviously, skill isn’t the apex of creativity.
Creativity isn’t dependent on skill. It definitely helps. But you don’t have to be highly skilled to be creative.
So what are the apexes of creativity. What makes someone good at creativity? This is my own attempt at understanding the process. Perhaps I have some more to figure out. Or perhaps it’s dead on. I’ll let you decide.
Apex 1: Action. Almost every middle-aged men has had at least one million-dollar idea. But how many middle-aged millionaires do you know? So few people lack the drive and ability to act on their ideas. True creativity requires action.
Apex 2: Grace. I describe grace as the ability to change. It’s the ability to adapt and survive to changing environments and truths. I see so many folks lose their creativity when they conform to a mold and are unwilling to change. That’s why companies, churches, and artists die. Have the grace to accept change and adapt to it.
Apex 3: Humility. Humility is the ability to something else in front of yourself. True creativity comes from a desire to serve your audience. Creativity and art aren’t just about you. Great creativity is always bigger than the one who created it. It includes others and expands to become something more than the sum of its parts.
So that’s my list. Argue with me. Hopefully I have enough grace and humility to accept your criticism.
it is apparent, based on the three apexes of creativity that you have wonderfully crafted, that “creativity” is not just a state, its an all-encompassing action.
You aren’t just “creative” as a person, but its an action taking motion that people assume is something that has to be born instead of adopted.
That means their is hope for others to find and unlesh their creativity that was given to them from the very beginning.
Let me know if I’m totally over-analyzing what you said here.
Nope. I think that’s the natural conclusion. Anyone can be creative. But so few people lack the initiative to make their thoughts happen.
