Lately I’ve found myself becoming a headhunter. Folks keep approaching me with positions they need filled and see if I know someone right for the job. So I approach a few folks I network with and float it around. It’s pretty fun connecting folks to new job opportunities.
But this is something I’ve noticed in all these exchanges. Most of the best jobs are never listed on job sites or classified ads. The best jobs are all found through networking and friendships.
I’ve found relationships are the key to everything. It’s not education. Not even having the right experience. It’s all about being a great friend and investing in others. It’s about giving of yourself selflessly.
As you invest in others, others are looking to invest back into you. When a job position comes available they look to you, because they want to help you out.
You see, it’s not really about networking. Networking is meeting everyone you can to see what you can get from them. What I’m talking about is meeting everyone you can to see what you can offer them. It’s about an attitude of generosity. It’s impossible for that not to come back around.
So maybe you’re looking for a job right now. Tough luck. You’ll probably have to look on the job posting boards. But I encourage you to start now and invest in others. Start putting yourself out there and meeting folks. Look for ways you can contribute to their lives. Look for ways to help others get their dream jobs. I guarantee it will come back around when it’s time for you to find a new job.
Sow and reap. It works in every area of your life.
