I follow a bunch of people on Twitter and Facebook. I truly wish I didn’t. Because every time there’s a new scandal or news story, I see hundreds of opinions. World Vision hires gay employees, I see 200 opinions. Noah’s about to release, I see 300.
You name the story, you’ll see hundreds of people trying to build their platform by criticizing or offering their wisdom on the topic.
The problem is, all of this is just noise. I want to hide everyone. Because none of it comes from a position of love. Or if it does, I certainly can’t see it. There are far too many haters in the world spewing their opinions.
There are, however, a few people I get excited about reading things from. When they post a “my thoughts on the _____ issue”, I immediately click. Why’s that?
It’s because I know they’re speaking from love.
Either I know them personally, or they’ve established their platform in love. When they have something to say, it’s seasoned and brewed in love. You can tell that they legitimately care about those involved in the issues.
Unfortunately, there are so few people building platforms of love. Do these people have Christian friends who struggle with homosexuality and finding their place in the church world? Do they know the director of Noah and understand the backlash he’s getting from evangelical Christians?
Everyone has an opinion on the news articles they read. But that opinion isn’t valid unless there’s love in there.
I encourage you, if you don’t truly love the people you’re writing about, don’t write it. And you’ll probably find that if you actually love them, you’ll decide not to write about them anyways.
Love covers a multitude of sins. It doesn’t blog and tweet about them.
Let’s be people of love.
Whoa! What a hater (on haters).
Great post. Jesus, too, seemed to be a hater on haters.
Love your comment that everyone has an opinion. I find I don’t even have to have much info to have an opinion AND, guess what, my opinion is right. There is not a single opinion I hold that is not correct.
I think opinions are like belly buttons.
Everyone has one.
They have little or no value.
Often they don’t make sense – so why do we have bbs all our life?
And, it is usually best to not expose it.
