Every morning at 9am my phone vibrates at least 20 times. That’s my to do list agitating my pocket, letting me know how much I have to do that day. It gets frustrating, because I really only need to do about 4 or 5 things each day to keep my sites running successfully. I need to write a few things, edit a few things, and assign some things. Pretty simple.
But I have this whole 80% of my to-do list that no one sees. No one knows about it. They’re items like:
- Write a chapter in your new e-book.
- Write a devotional chapter.
- Work on converting your website to a new version.
- Write a guest blog post for Daniel.
- Develop ideas for a guest blog post series for Dusty.
None of those things are necessary. But they’re things I want to do to develop my business (or whatever you want to call what I do). They’re long term projects that nobody will see for quite a while. It can get discouraging. I might choose to watch four hours of TV instead of developing this extra 80%.
But I’m convinced success in life is about converting that invisible 80% into the visible 20%.
When I was first starting my blogs, I was working full-time at a church. My visible 20% was my work at the church. (Perhaps it was more like 80%, but the concept stands.) And my blogs were the invisible rest. I had to work hard to make that invisible percentage turn into the visible percentage. But the benefits I’m seeing today are from the work I did in the invisible.
You have a dream. We all do. And right now it’s invisible to the world. But your success relies on your ability to turn that invisible percentage into the visible percentage.
No one’s making you do it. No one will miss it if you don’t do it.
But you need to do it.
