People love to hate on Millennials. I actually admire them. I’ve seen the Millennial generation completely disrupt the world – I’d say in a positive way.
Just look at the impact Millennials have had on traditional industries.
- The music industry is on its head. No longer are labels the only way for musicians to get their music out there. Being an independent artist is feasible. Not only that, you don’t even have to sell your music to be successful. Just look at Chance the Rapper.
- The taxi industry is on its head. Uber is changing the way we look at transportation. It’s decentralizing the whole industry.
- The entertainment industry is on its head. Who would have thought a few years ago that some simple YouTube videos would get more attention and views than the most popular TV shows or movies.
The Millennial ideal is that we no longer have to wait on the industry – that industries are more a hindrance to progress than they are an aid.
Here’s how I think that could fix the nation: Imagine if we stopped relying on the government to fix problems. Imagine if we “overturned” the government by doing the right thing in spite of the government.
We would no longer have to wait for legislation for social change. Racial divides wouldn’t be solved by laws, but by people doing the right thing outside of the governmental industry. Instead, creative solutions will come out of people who have the ability to act on them without the government helping.
Poverty and joblessness can be solved by creative individuals who come up with creative solutions.
Division can be overcome by creative peace movements.
The Millennial ideal is that we no longer need a few individuals telling the whole group how things will go. We can take matters into our own hands – not by violence or subversion – but by creativity.
Instead of regretting election results or waiting for the government to fix things, let’s take some initiative. Let’s get creative and do the right things ourselves. I believe this can be one of the most optimistic times if we just embrace this silly Millennial idea that we – you, me, and everyone else – can actually make positive changes without the need of some corporate entity.
Now that’s a GREAT idea! I love it. Politics has its place and politicians are certainly involved in some important things. But the church is still plan A for fixing what’s broken in the world. Spiritual entrepreneurship needs a chance!
