My big brother claims he isn’t very talented. “My little brother got all the talents, even though I got all the looks.”
He’s full of it. I got the looks and he got the talent. Unfortunately, he doesn’t really see his talent. He thinks a talent is the ability to paint or to sing a sonata. But his talent is far less tangible, far more powerful, and far more dangerous. He has the talent of leadership. It’s natural – ingrained within.
He frequently tells people things like this:
- “Don’t be a coward!”
- To a guitar player: “Can you not hear yourself?”
He tells people these things, and people love him for it. It’s not like they put up with it…they feel loved by him when he says those things! That’s not a common talent – to be able to say things like that to people and have them feel loved.
He could easily start a cult. Heck! I might even follow him into one of those. That’s talent.
There’s a good chance you have a talent you’re unaware of. You see artists, painters, or leaders and wish you could be like them. Guess what. You probably aren’t and won’t be like them. But there’s something within you that you don’t see.
Ask those around you what that is. Let them describe it to you. Then start acting on it. You might not believe you have that hidden talent people tell you about – I know my brother doesn’t believe it. But you do have it. Act like it.
Speaking of my brother, check out his leadership expeditions. He takes exciting, discipleship expeditions with speakers like Mark Batterson and Matt Chandler. You should go on one. One pastor I talked to told me it changed his life.
Way to go, Jonathan. Good message.
