We’re a people prone to wander. We’re prone to leave the God we love. It became our new nature after Adam and Eve ate from the fruit. The Knowledge of Good and Evil entered into humanity and we no longer relied on God as our source of truth.
Jesus redeemed us from the law. He redeemed us from our new bent. Unfortunately, until we get to heaven, we’ll always wander back to our old nature. We’ll always try to return to finding truth within ourselves. Finding the answer within ourselves. Losing our childlike nature that Jesus restored for us on the cross.
That same childlikeness is the source of so much creativity. It’s the wonder of a child that causes us to explore and ask questions. We know the truth isn’t inside ourselves so we open up to the truth and stimuli from without. We’re prone to wander from wonder.
Throughout our lives we’ll continually gain new knowledge. We’ll start seeing the world as predictable and routine. This is where we wander. As soon as we stop searching out the things God has concealed (Prov. 25:2), we lose our creativity.
God has hidden so much from us—not to be cruel—but to allow us the chance to explore. He’s given us the chance to discover the beauty and wonder He hid in every corner of the earth. It’s our responsibility to find it.
So we have to be willing to ask questions. We have to be willing to escape the security of our old nature—finding the truth within ourselves—believing we have all the answers.
Facts are only facts until a new truth is discovered. And so much of the truth inside us is flimsy. We don’t know the whole story. That’s why we must keep exploring.
Avoid the drift from wonder. Seek God daily.
