I’ve been in far too many conversations about this site already. Almost all negative. The problem is, it’s not our place to criticize. Unfortunately, social media makes it far too easy to spout off our opinions without thinking or even having an educated opinion.
I’m not sure if this is besmirching the name of Christ. I get negative feelings about it – especially after seeing news reports about it. But the Holy Spirit (through the Bible) never told us not to build fashion sites for pastors. He did tell us to mind our own business and to be gracious (1 Thessalonians 4:11 and Colossians 4:6).
Now let’s move on to the pastor that suggested we put all homosexuals behind an electric fence. Want to hear something shocking? I love that man. Not because I agree with him. But because, like it or not, he is my family. And I’m commanded to love him.
Almost every family has a racist/drunk uncle. Pastor Worley is like our racist/drunk uncle. You don’t go around publicly hating on the guy. You love him…but live a life that shows you’re different. It’s not love if you publicly distance yourself from him and criticize him.
So maybe Ed Young is your embarrassing uncle. We don’t need to attack him. We don’t need to attack each other. The Church is a Body. If the Body is slicing itself up we have problems.
There’s room for debate. But never let it turn into criticism.
I apologize if this is a rant. I don’t normally rant. My goal is love. That should be every believer’s goal.
Great stuff.
I tell people that the reason I value church production and the arts so highly, is that it connects with people who otherwise wouldn’t engage in (or even enter) a church.
Maybe, just maybe, there are folks out there who find it easier to connect with the preaching of a guy who is well-dressed. Maybe someone is in a professional field where your wardrobe reflects your respectability, your wisdom. It may take one more barrier out of that individuals ability to hear the gospel if the presenter has good fashion sense.
All the same, I do find some of the site a bit humorous. But I think Ed teaches and preaches very well, and is a solid guy. If he wants to dress well, and show others how to do the same, go for it, brother. You spread your fashion sense, I’ll spread my tech knowledge, and we’ll all be better-off.

Huh. I didn’t really get a bad impression of it. Just thought it was a tongue-in-cheek site. Of course, I know who Ed Young is and I have seen him do a lot of things for shock value– seemingly to get people to think about things differently or to start conversations about things. I haven’t heard about this in the media, but it seems to have worked in pretty much the same way his promo for Valentine’s week did when he and his wife stayed in bed – on the roof of their church property – for several days.

Great thought, dude. I love the metaphor you chose. I think it’s perfect. We are all family. We need to act like it.
Unfortunately, a lot of people just don’t know how to act like a family, even with their families.
Have you read Divided We Unite? It’s a great (and short) read along these lines.

I agree. I slip into criticism at times because it’s an easy way to get a laugh. It’s also a cheap way to build camaraderie with another- at the expense of the one criticized. “Criticism divides the power of the one criticized.” -Oswald Chambers
