I spoke at a creativity conference last week. I asked some of the attendees what the best part of the conference was. You might be surprised, but it wasn’t the keynote or breakout sessions. It was the one-on-one conversations they had with the speakers and other creatives.
You can read every inspirational book and get every tip/trick from the gurus, but the thing that will get you most inspired is other creatives–one on one. That’s the beauty of conferences. You can easily connect with folks doing the same thing you are.
But what do you do to get that spark when there are no conferences to visit? After all, we can’t blow our budget on every conference that comes along just to keep our creativity vital.
Grab some coffee. Chances are you’ve met some creatives in your community doing great work. Invite them out to coffee. Don’t have a hidden agenda. Just connect. Ask questions. Let them talk. Don’t try to make yourself look good. Do this frequently. Build a group of creatives around you and get inspired!
