There’s this weird tension in the concepts of humility and success. A lot of Christian businessmen and women have a hard time reconciling the two concepts. Being successful requires boldness and confidence. But that seems to be opposite of humility.
I’m convinced it’s not; you can be humble and successful at the same time. Here are ten thoughts about the two concepts and how they can work together.
- It’s okay to acknowledge when you’re successful.
- The key is to acknowledge that it doesn’t make you a better person.
- Ultimately, you acknowledge God prepared this for you in advance.
- He gave you the skills, dreams, and situations necessary to make it happen.
- He set the stage; you just executed.
- You can be bold, and still be humble.
- Boldness is confidence that you have a righteous mission.
- Business success can be a righteous mission if that’s what God has called you to.
- Even wealth is a good thing if you use it for God’s glory.
- Supporting your family gives God glory.
It turns out, success and humility work together just fine. In fact, we’re called to that.
But we also need to realize success isn’t just about making deals and cashflow. Success is doing what God has called you to do with complete boldness.
What have you learned about the relationships between humility and success? How do you balance the two?
