I’m convinced everyone needs some form of a coach in their life. This is someone who understands where you want to go in life and helps you get there. A coach could be someone helping you achieve a business goal, a life goal, or a physical goal. You need one, and it doesn’t matter how good you are.
Even Michael Phelps had a coach. You know he could swim laps around his coach. But he still humbled himself beneath his coach and learned from him. I don’t care how knowledgable or amazing you are, you need someone you can submit to and learn from. And here’s why.
1. A coach sees blindspots you might miss.
Do you have a short temper? Do you lack discipline in certain areas? Unless someone tells you, how will you know?
When you submit humbly to someone you trust, they can point out these areas to you. And this can help you move beyond those weaknesses.
2. They help you personalize wisdom/knowledge.
There’s a book out there for pretty much anything you want to accomplish. But a coach helps you personalize that to your life.
Sometimes the hardest thing in life is to take something from someone else and apply it to your unique situation. Think of it like an outfit you see online. You can try to replicate it completely and will probably fail. But if you tailor it for your unique body and the colors that work best on you, it can work out great.
3. They encourage you when you aren’t feeling it.
We all get down in the dumps. We all go through times where we lack motivation or where we forget our goals. Your coach will help you through those times.
Who do you have in your life as a coach? A spouse? Father? Pastor? Friend? It doesn’t have to be an official “life coach” (though those are amazing). But you need someone who will walk through this life with you and help coach you along.
