I’ve been working with a branch of Moody Publishers on a devotional project I’ve written. They’ve been helping me edit it and prepare it for publishing. It’s been a blast. But it’s also been enlightening.
In my first call with my editor, he said something that surprised me. I’d written this devotional that I saw as a highly targeted project for creative minds. I wrote it specifically with artists in mind. There were creative exercises and short lessons to help you think about your art differently (as well as the usual devotionally stuff).
Randall (my new editor) told me, “Have you considered the content in this book might actually reach a far larger audience than just artists? Most everyone relates with the struggles you address in this book.” It surprised me.
I’d pretty much relegated myself to someone who only has something to say to the artists within the church. I was okay with that, but I hadn’t thought my impact might reach beyond that. Apparently it can, and the guys at Moody things it should. So my editor’s been holding my hand helping me see my book from a larger perspective.
It just took someone who knew to tell me I had more potential in myself than I knew.
So now I’m turning that around on you. You have far more potential than you know. You might see yourself as simply a graphic designer, singer, marketing exec, church worker, or salesperson. And you think your influence stops there.
But you can take what you’ve learned and apply it to far more than just your small area. You can encourage people with what you know. You can educate people with what you know. You have far more inside you than you know.
You just have to let it out. Broaden your perspective and start influencing people.
PS. My publisher is using Mopho.to photos too! Check it out.
