Have you ever noticed some people seem to have all the adventures? Your average day involves a boring breakfast, getting gas at the station, and a regular workday. Yet they have some amazing story to tell each night.
What gives them the adventurous life while you seem to have a boring one?
I’ve found adventure doesn’t just happen to people. Adventure requires a decision. It requires—when you get to that point of no return—plunging on ahead while most people go back to their comfortable lives.
Think about Bilbo Baggins in the Hobbit. Most of his fellow hobbits stayed in their holes. But Bilbo chose to go. And he chose to keep going even when things got tough.
Neo in the Matrix chose the right pill. Others had chosen the other pill.
You see, crazy situations happen to all of us. Perhaps not as crazy as the above stories, but they happen nonetheless. What turns them into an adventure is our response to the situation. We can either take the circumstance and make the most of it, or we can have a crummy day. The decision to have an adventure is entirely in your hands.
I’d like to challenge you with something. Next time you’re faced with a bad situation, look for the adventure instead. When your flight’s delayed and everyone in the airport is complaining, look for someone unique to meet. When your car breaks down on the side of the road, meet someone new. Don’t just hide in your car until AAA shows up.
Life can be a huge adventure if we choose to let it be. I don’t know about you, but I want adventure. I want to be the guy with the stories. I want to be the one living a life worth writing about.
