I’m writing a new book. I just finished writing the second chapter. It sucks.
I know exactly what I want to say in the chapter. The content is golden. But when it makes its way from my brain, to my fingers, to the keyboard…it just starts sucking.
But I finished the chapter anyways. I could have let it hold me back. And I think many people do let this sort of thing hold you back. But just because something isn’t turning out like you want it, it doesn’t mean you should stop working.
I think so many people forget about the editing process. They are afraid to churn out crap because they think that’s where it’ll stay. But that’s not the case.
So much of my work starts out horribly. It’s only in editing and reworking that anything good comes from me.
I’d venture to say I’m not the only person who works that way. The finished product you see from people is rarely what it looked like when the artist first created it.
Don’t be afraid to work. Work. Produce. Make. Edit it later.
But don’t let perfection keep you stagnant. Don’t let perfection hold you back from being productive.
