Hey guys! I have a book coming out September 1st. It’s already on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and CBD for pre-order. Because it’s a bit different than other books, I thought I’d let you know exactly what it’s about and why you should read it.
I started on this book a couple of years ago as a project for creative people. I’ve noticed creative Christians—especially in the Church—often have a difficult time. We have an innate desire for greatness and a desire to make a difference in the world, but we aren’t sure how that fits into the Christian walk.
- Is greatness something we should try for? Or is that rooted in arrogance?
- How can I make a difference with my art?
- What do I do when others don’t respect my skills, drives, and passions?
I’ve also seen that creative people who work in churches often feel the furthest from God. They spend their days creating their very best for the church, but they have a hard time feeling connected to their creator. I’ve found many of my creative friends have never even been able to successfully finish reading a devotional.
I wrote this book for all those reasons. I wanted a devotional that spoke to my creative side. I wanted something that encouraged me to keep going. And I wanted something that connected this desire for greatness to a desire for closeness with God.
When I submitted the book to Moody Collective—a branch of Moody Publishers—they got excited about the project with me. They saw the potential with the book and together we made it a reality.
Our hope is that anyone who makes something reads this. That could mean you work at a church. It could mean you’re a marketing executive. It could mean you’re a Starbucks barista. Whatever you make or produce, you can discover your relationship with God inside of that. You don’t have to compartmentalize your life—your work and your faith. It can all collide into one.
I also hope that creative teams will read this book together. I want pastors to be able to hand this off to the artists in their church. I want entrepreneurs to be able to read this book together in a small group. I want creative teams to work through this content over a month—discussing it daily.
The book is a very simple read. It’s 30 daily reads with a short verse, encouragement, prayer starter, and some creative exercises to start changing the way you think about your life.
I’d love if you would pre-order the book today and help spread the word to those in your life who should read it. It’s available as a paperback and e-book.
I think the book can truly change the way you see your work and the way you see your Creator. I’m excited to see reviews come in as the book releases. I did already send it to a few trusted people. Here’s what they had to say:
Jonathan has put together a great devotional for anyone who wants to see their world in a unique way. Whether you’re creative or even part-creative, this book will help you grow in both your craft and your walk with God-in only 30 days!
Mark Batterson
Jonathan Malm is one of the most creative, faith-filled people I know. You’ll find no better guide to help you discover your great gift to the world.
Ben Arment
I’m of the opinion that better humans make better art. I’m also of the opinion that after 30 days with Jonathan’s thoughts you’ll be better at both. A simple, yet provocative journey through scripture and the creative mind, this devotional is one worth reading.
Blaine Hogan
Created for More was created with you in mind! This devotional is Jonathan Malm’s heartbeat. His passion to help awaken the spiritual act of creativity within each of us is evidenced throughout these pages. This will be a valuable resource not only for you but also for the teams of creatives you lead.
