My wife and I have been in a fun state of limbo for the past few weeks. We’ve been feeling it’s time to move from Dallas but we also don’t feel like God’s telling us where to go. Our lease is up December 11th, so we need to decide pretty soon or else we’ll be homeless.
And the thing is, we haven’t heard a single word from God. We’ve been praying and asking. But it feels like God isn’t speaking to us.
Spoiler alert: He is. But it isn’t with an audible voice or with precise words. In fact, I really think God let us choose where we’d move.
My wife and I have been chatting about four or five places we’d like to live. But when we talk about three of the locations, it just doesn’t feel right. It’s funny, because one of the locations is Miami, and we both really want to move there eventually. But we also sense right now it isn’t the time.
So really we’ve been feeling okay about living in two places. One place I really don’t want to live, the other place I’d really enjoy. But I know either of those options would be fine for us.
Note: I don’t “know”. It’s just a feeling, a sense, a peace, or whatever spiritual nomenclature you want to surround it with.
But yesterday we signed a lease and are starting to arrange details to move. All without hearing a single “word” from God. So while God might not speak to me in the vocal sense of the word, I do know He’s leading me.
The coolest thing about following God is that He’s a good leader. It’s wholly dependent on His ability to lead—not my ability to follow. So I can relax. He’ll let me know when I’m going the wrong way. My job is just to be willing to listen. He’ll lead.

Good post! Sometimes that’s the way it happens. God is faithful!
I really enjoy these short – to the point posts.
I’ve tried convincing people of this for a while.
God doesn’t always point to a place or opportunity. We often need to start walking towards it.
Good post.
Funny how shepherds don’t speak “sheep” but if the sheep just keep moving in the direction of the shepherd they get to the right place. Keeping our eyes on Him must be what it means when it says, “In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct our paths.”
