I’ve discovered that life doesn’t work like a sloping curve. If you keep doing what you’ve always done, you won’t keep reaching new heights. You’ll eventually plateau.
Instead, life works more like a set of stairs. You act one way, and you reach a new level. You’ll stay at that level, though, until you try something new. Then it’s onto the next level and time for another change.
It’s like this with churches. The things you do to facilitate growing from a 200 to a 500-member church won’t be the same things you need to do to transition from a 500 to a 1,000-member church. Your approach has to change as you go through these different levels.
What got you to one level won’t get you to the next level.
When I published my first book, I did it without a literary agent. I approached Moody Collective with a manuscript and asked them to help me get it out there. That worked for Created for More.
But that hasn’t worked for my next book. It’s a different format and a different topic, and it’s not right for the publisher. Make sense. But in order for me to reach out to new publishers, I have to change my technique. I need an agent.
So that’s one change I’m making to get to the next level. It’s a bit uncomfortable. It’s a bit scary. It removes a little bit of the control from my hands. But it’s what I need.
Let me ask you this: What change do you need to make to get to the next level in your life? My guess is it won’t be comfortable. It might feel like you’re losing a little bit of control. But the change is worth it.
Make the change. Climb onto the next step in your life. It’s not worth plateauing.
