My to do list possesses magical abilities. Yes, the things I get done seem completely unrelated to the length of my to do list. Some days I have 20 items on my list. Some days I have 10. Yet, as long as my head’s in the game I’m able to get both lists done under the same time constraints.
It’s magic! My to do list seems to bend time and space.
Have you ever stopped to think – How do I get everything done on my list? How did my list get as long or short as it is? Did we do some scientific evaluation of what we could feasibly get done in a day? Or is it based solely on our perception of what we can achieve during a given time period?
What about when I need to add an item to my list? Somehow it gets done. What about when I want to go on vacation early? Somehow I get everything done with a day to spare.
In fact the only time I don’t get my to do list done is when I’m feeling unmotivated and let myself get distracted. And often, I do that because I realize it’s fully possible for me to catch up tomorrow.
My point is this: You can get so much more done than you think you can. So much of our time is spent dreading work and trying to figure out how to say “no” to things we don’t think we can do. Imagine if we diverted that time to actually getting things done. We’d do much more than usual. And we’d actually get to enjoy our times of relaxation instead of feeling guilty for having to say no or not getting everything done.
Imagine that!
