My pastor says something that rings with so much truth: Jesus is the goal. Daniel Villarreal is a visionary guy. He understands dreams. He understands risk. He’s living a life that’s all about that. But he understands that ultimately, the dream isn’t the end result. Jesus is the end result. He’s the completion.
There’s a huge danger in your dream. The danger is that you think your dream is the end of it all. “If I somehow attain this goal, I will have arrived.” Consequently, you can learn to hate the journey toward your dream. You can despise the times where your dream seems far away.
And you completely miss that Jesus is giving you an opportunity to draw closer to Him.
A clearer example of this is the politician whose goal is the White House. He has a 20 year plan to involves a wife, 2.3 children, a dog, and a slowly rising political career. He marries a beautiful young girl at the age of 23 because that’s what he’s meant to do. Then he progresses down the list of his goals.
20 years later he might find himself near the White House, but also realizing he hasn’t learned to love his wife. He hasn’t embraced his children. His dog is just an accessory in the attire of his life. Sure, he might be close to his goal, but he’s missed out on everything between.
The danger in your dream is that your dream ultimately doesn’t matter. It’s the journey getting there that matters. It’s the relationship with God, with family, and with others that truly matter.
We can’t afford to become too fixated on our dream and miss out on the finer things of life.
There’s so much more than your dream. His name is Jesus. And He’s attainable right now if you choose to pursue Him.

Awesome post and so true. Amidst the noise of church leadership – “be all you can be”, “change the world”, “make your mark on this generation” – it is easy to forget that this isn’t all about us and the difference our life can make.
Ultimately it is about our death and HIS life being lived through us. Not Him making OUR lives significant but dying to self and letting HIM live HIS live through us.
