I’ve got a friend who wants to flex his entrepreneurial muscle. He’s a starter at his core. But he doesn’t know what idea to follow. He doesn’t know what his “one thing” is.
That’s a problem many entrepreneurial minds have. They have so many great ideas, they don’t know which one to go with. And the fear is that they’ll miss out on the huge idea and follow the small idea.
It’s a somewhat valid fear. If you’re wasting your time doing “good” things, you won’t have time to do the great things. Fortunately, though, I don’t know of any entrepreneur who has just one thing.
I mean sure, there’s one thing that tends to bring in most of their income. There’s one thing that everyone seems to know them for. But the only way they discover that one thing is by doing tons of different things.
There aren’t many entrepreneurs I know who just do one thing. They always spread their energy across multiple projects, starting hundreds of new ones and closing down a few here and there so they can devote their time elsewhere.
So don’t worry about missing out on your one thing. Just start!
To make it easy, though, where should you start?
You should start with something you’re already doing for fun. Figure out a way to make money doing that. Look for a need you’re especially positioned to meet, and look for a way to meet it that’s easy and that comes naturally for you.
Tackle that project. Then start another. Then another. Keep going and flex your entrepreneurial muscle. You’ll find you can do tons of different things, and soon enough you’ll stumble upon the “one thing” that makes you loads of money and brings you tons of success.
