You know that big struggle in your life? The one you might be afraid to battle because it appears to be a giant? Maybe it’s something that seems impossible. Well, if you don’t defeat that giant, somebody else will. God is determined to defeat giants in the world. But you get to decide if he’ll use you to do it or somebody else.
I was reading in the Bible where the Israelites were wandering in the wilderness. Moses sent twelve spies to scout out the land they were to occupy. They came back afraid of the giants in the land.
I’d never made the mental connection that these giants who descended from Anak might be the same family that eventually spawned Goliath. But it turns out, it was the same family.
Now, these giants kept the Israelites from going into the land God had promised them. And it wasn’t until many years later that they eventually got into the land and drove the giants out of the country. They still never fully defeated the giants like they were originally supposed to do.
Until, of course, David. David with his five smooth stones from the babbling brook finished the job from hundreds of years earlier. God finally accomplished what he meant to do generations ago.
I’m convinced that the Israelites could have defeated the giants in that original conquest of Israel. But their fear kept them from trying it.
But I love that God was tenacious through the years. It was always on his mind to defeat those giants. He was just waiting for someone brave enough to partner with him and do it.
I’d love my life to be the type that God uses to slay giants. I don’t want to wait for my great grandchildren to finally beat the things that I allowed to conquer me in life. I want them to deal with their own battles, not finish mine.
I want to encourage you: God can use you to defeat giants. You just have to step up and say, “Use me, God. I want to be the type who wins battles with you.”
