If I were to ask the question, “who here is creative,” to a group of kids, I guarantee nearly all of them would raise their hands. But if I were to ask that same question to a group of adults, most would leave their hands down.
What happened between childhood and adulthood? What changed? I don’t believe creativity leaves the body. I believe we buy into a lie when someone tells us we aren’t creative.
I had an art teacher in first grade that told me I wasn’t creative. What about you? Who told you that you were uncreative?
Doesn’t that remind you of something God said to Adam and Eve? The snake in the garden told them they were naked when he was tempting and shaming them. And God asked them, “Who told you that you were naked?”
I’m convinced the Devil doesn’t just use snakes anymore to spread lies to us about ourselves. I’m convinced he can use teachers, parents, siblings…to tell us we aren’t creative, we aren’t smart, we aren’t…whatever. Not that those people are evil, but his menace can live in anyone’s idle or ignorant words against you.
But why would you believe what a snake tells you about yourself? Why would you believe what a teacher says about you? A parent? A sibling? If they’re working on telling you who you aren’t, you can bet they don’t have any real say in that. Encouragement is one thing, but discouragement is lies. And you don’t need to believe them.
I found out later in life that I actually am creative. That art teacher didn’t know.
So what have people told you about yourself? What lie have you believed? Who told you that you aren’t _________. Stop believing the lies. They have no hold on you.
