Revelation: You care more about your art than anyone else. Nobody cares about it as much as you do. And there are two things you need to keep in mind about that truth.
1. You can relax. Nobody cares as much as you do. So you don’t have to stress out about it.
Today’s issue of Sunday| Mag is missing one article. My writer didn’t get it into me in time for me to edit it and lay it out. I could freak out about it and worry what other people are going to think. But instead, I remember that nobody will miss it. I’m the one who set these standards for my art. I can change my standards on a whim whenever I want. That’s the benefit of it being mine.
2. You need to hustle. It’s true that you can relax. But that doesn’t mean you sit back. Nobody else cares about your art as much as you do. So that means you need to be the one making it happen.
Nobody else will champion your projects like you will. And you need to do just that: champion them.
So the liberating truth is this: You can do whatever you want with your art. Just make it something you love and make it yours. Then spread the joy – continually. Tell everyone about it and put your heart into it. You can be relaxed while hustling your butt off. It’s possible.
