One of the worst things we can do in life is to assume we know how it should go. Call it American ideals, but I think we all want to make a certain income, live in a certain type of abode, drive a car, watch TV, etc. There are these things that we all seem to assume make our lives livable.
But who told you life is supposed to be like that? One of my biggest fears is that my websites will stop making money and I’ll lose my new house. Then I’ll have to go live with my parents and feel like a failure. But who says that’s a bad thing?
I assume it’s bad because I live in bondage to the American ideal. But what if something like that were actually good for me.
We’re trained to think that loss is a bad thing. Progress means getting more stuff and loss means regress. Right? But what if our mentality is wrong there?
I think of space ships. The amount of rocket fuel and extra comments it takes to get them up into space is staggering. It’s massive. But at some point, for the space ship to keep going, it has to lose the extra weight. It loses something in order to gain forward progress.
I believe our lives are like that. We lose things in order to progress.
Life doesn’t have to be so traumatic when we lose things. In fact, if we’re willing to trust that God is orchestrating our lives, painful loss can be as natural as breathing.
Note: I’m not saying people are dead weight. I understand loss of loves ones is always tough. But I’m talking about losing a job, an opportunity, a material object…
Loss doesn’t have to pull you back. In fact, I believe God uses loss to propel us forward. He may not cause loss, but He certainly uses it.
