It’s important to know what your life is about. If you don’t know what you’re living your life for, you’ll be wasting your life. And life – your time – is one of the most precious commodities in the whole world. You don’t get more of it.
Unfortunately, there are three things I see a lot of people living their lives for. These three things will drain your energy, your time, and ultimately rob you of your purpose.
1. Security.
If you were made for security, you would never leave your mother’s womb. A life lived in security is a life wasted. Instead, we are designed to take risks. We’re designed to climb, conquer, experiment, be brave…
If you feel focused on security in your life, it’s time to make some adjustments. Re-align your purpose and start taking risks.
2. Entertainment.
Listen, I play Pokemon Go too. I’m not saying I need to delete the app from my phone. But if that’s what my day is centered around, I’m missing out on my life’s purpose. Entertainment, when out of its proper place in your life, can consume everything.
Make sure your obsession with sports, or phone games, or Scandal doesn’t become a vice in your life. Don’t let it take top priority (or even second, third, or fourth). It’s low priority. Keep it there.
3. You.
Life isn’t about your goals or your happiness. It’s about God. And our purpose in that mix is to glorify Him and enjoy Him forever. Our enjoyment comes from glorifying and living for Him. That’s the purpose.
So if you live to please yourself or only for your own survival, you’re missing out. Instead, you should live to love others the way Christ loves you, and to live a life of abandonment in pursuit of God. Those are the only two purposes that will truly satisfy. Devote your energy there, and your life will be fulfilled.
