Creativity can be a lonely road. You don’t have to walk it alone, though. Often your biggest resource for overcoming creativity block will be those you surround yourself with. These will be the ones who will challenge your ruts and give you the resources to get out of them.
A few weeks ago I started a (semi) weekly Skype session with a couple friends. This meeting time has been the source of much of this blog as well as quite a few great ideas.
The thing that makes this group so powerful is that they each think quite differently than me. One has a fun case of ADHD. The other is likely a synesthete. And I…well I’m perfect…and extremely obsessive. 🙂
So what is it that we talk about in these Skype sessions? Here’s a quick list of our topics.
- A few minutes of catching up with each other’s lives.
- Showing each other resources/creativity we’ve found online.
- Presenting our current projects and ideas.
- We discuss the ideas and add our own thoughts.
This whole process is extremely informal and about an hour tops. But each time we “hang up” with each other we’re texting to set another Skype session soon.
So find yourself a group of creatives you get along with. Be sure you don’t all think the same. And start meeting. If you’re all in the same city, sit down at Starbucks. If you’re across the country…Skype.
