I’ve had a chance to debrief with some our speakers and sponsors from Echo Conference. I’ve heard consistently how much they love Echo. Besides the fist-bump to the team, I’ve enjoyed hearing their explanation. Why is Echo Conference such a great event?
I’ve heard consistently we have great speakers, great worship, great snacks…all the things we work so hard to provide. But the thing is, what we offer isn’t so different from what other conferences offer. We have many of the same speakers, same worship leaders, same snacks… Those are all important. But those aren’t the reason people love Echo Conference so much.
As I listen to what people love most about Echo Conference, there are a few very little things that make the difference. These tiny, seemingly insignificant details, alter the whole course of the conference for so many people.
The small details are things like:
- We don’t take ourselves too seriously.
- Our speakers actually mingle with attendees instead of hanging out in a green room.
- The inspiration we provide is tangible…it doesn’t make people feel inadequate.
These are such tiny things. But they aren’t simply additions to what we do. They’re part of our trajectory. They’re part of the foundation that makes Echo Conference what it is. Even if we shuffled some of the big things around, as long as this foundation is there, Echo Conference will be great.
So often, the difference between something good or great…is a small detail. It’s one tiny philosophy or intention that changes the whole thing. One little detail, at the right time, changes the whole project. It’s true in every project.
It’s even true for your project. You might have great ideas and the hustle to back them up…but be aware of the little details that take something good to excellent. Make sure those little details are there in the beginning. They can alter the whole trajectory of your project.
so true. it is the little extras that produce the big “Wow”s. Everyone expects a great conference, speakers and snacks – but the attitude of the staff and workshop speakers was outstanding. Plus the little wows like the photo booth, the old arcade games and, like you said, the folks on stage had fun, did not take themselves too seriously. That let’s everybody relax and realize, hey, when I screw up at home God will not fall off His throne and the world will go on. Like I always tell folks sometimes, “God is light. So, lighten up.”
