One question. What’s the biggest thing you’ve learn about creativity? Josh Collesano answers: “We are not the originators [of creativity], simply curators and stewards of the tremendous creativity of God.”
Whether you believe in God or not, the law of conservation of energy tells us that energy can neither be created nor destroyed. I think the same is true for creativity. Creativity exists. We don’t manufacture it. We simply curate it.
A curator doesn’t create the works of art. He cares for them. He makes sure they’re displayed to maximize their effect. When we realize art and creativity already exist, it takes the pressure off us. It frees us up to take something that’s already amazing and make it ours.
About Community Pool:
These posts are all about drawing from the creative community. Every creative has a unique perspective. When we share in others’ perspectives our own creative lens gets wider. So I ask one simple question of creatives. I share it with you, then I unfold it.

This. This is profound, and life changing. This post single handedly changed the way I view creativity, and the way I will curate it. Wow. Thank you. 🙂
Curate away! 🙂
Thanks Jake… I'm humbled as I'm sure Jonathan is as well.

Josh Collesano nailed the origin of creativity and our freedom as curators. My perspective is changed forever because of this simple blog. You see I have been uncomfortable in displaying my creativity in our church, but recently as part of a group tasked with set design for an upcoming message series entitled “staying the course” by our pastor Glenn MacLean I felt released from pride and took on the steward/curator role in the set design recreating an authentic nautical set for our stage. The results have been spectacular. A 16 foot mast with wooden crows nest, full actual rigging and canvas sails. Our pastor found images on the web and gave us the mission to recreate it in two days. Don’t you love time lines? I can’t wait for the next message series!!
