I’m unaware of any practical application for this thought. So please fill in the blanks with your comments below and bear with me. This is a fun idea.
I was contemplating theology and creativity today. I was thinking how our five senses guide our creativity. Everything about creativity is bound up in those five senses. But what about the sixth sense? I believe in premonition, intuition–whatever you want to call it. There’s definitely an element of the soul that can sense things outside the realm of the big five.
What if we could tap into that sixth sense for our creativity. I think some people do and don’t even realize what they’re doing. So maybe God has something bigger available to us beyond what we see.
And wouldn’t it be just like God to take it a step further. In the Bible, the number six symbolically represents man. But seven represents God–completion. What if God gave us another sense? A seventh sense?
Would that be our spirits? If the sixth sense is in our souls, doesn’t it make sense?
Are there two untapped senses that humanity isn’t conscious of? What if we could harness those for creativity? What would that look like? Can we even tap into a seventh sense before we get to heaven?
Note: I’m not recommending getting spooky or occultish. Just presenting a question.
So what do you think? I’d love to start discussing this concept in depth.
Interesting that you bring this up. I am going to be talking to our youth in Wednesday Night Bible study about the Holy Spirit and about the Bible. Connection to both are absolutely necessary as it helps us to be better and complete and solidified. From there is the foundation for the day….which also clears the runway of our hearts and minds of world clutter….and gives us a chance to launch with creativity from off the foundation. Just a thought based on what I’ve been studying 🙂 Good entry here, hope this analysis helps.

for me ‘sixth sense’ is about my true-self. what i’ve learned and experienced in life, combined with my deepest desires (or discontents), giving me an urge (or deterrence) to do something. the ‘seventh sense’ is introduced into my life as a conviction that comes externally, from Something greater than me, and it makes everything right as clear as day. With this conviction, my desire/discontent is like a bow that is given an arrow. I became less agitated, more focused but in the same time open-minded. Instead of beating everything on my path with the bow, now i know what target to aim with the arrow accurately. LOL i’m being too absurd now. To make it practical it’s like this:
My ministry is in music. sixth sense gives me the idea of what to do with a song, the kind of music that i want, the big intro or that soaring synth/ambient delay inspirations that might be cool together. And the seventh sense discerns what’s actually needed for the flow of worship and not just a gimmick. Proof of this seventh sense is the whole team happy with the end result, no conflicting ideas/sacrificed feelings.
interesting thought!
