Hectic week. On top of that, I’ve decided to blog 15 times/week – up from my usual 10. I’m not entirely excited about this new discipline, and I’ve been incredibly distracted. Facebook, Twitter and email are just a few of my distractions. I find myself refreshing my website statistics every minute just so I don’t have to blog. Why can’t I get any work done?!?! Then genius sets in. I need to remove my distractions.
For me, this involved creating a new user account on my computer. I call it my “Blogging” user. I’ve removed access to every program and website that could distract me. Check it out!
All I can see is Google Chrome with my three blogs, Evernote, Photoshop and some music. It’s been zen-like. I’ve gotten so much done and the feeling of guilt I’ve been experiencing is gone!
What distracts you the most. If you’ve been slacking off, identify those things and remove them from your creative space. Your conscience and productive bones will thank you.

This. This is brilliant.
it's worked wonders 🙂

Jonathan, great idea. I came across this app this week that works similar to what you are doing. Check it out. http://getconcentrating.com/
Cool! I saved $29 bucks my way 😛

Great Idea! I might have to come up with a similar solution.
it works like magic! I highly recommend it 🙂

I've got this thing called "fences" for windows 7. You choose which desktop icons you wanna keep visible… double click on your desktop and everything else disappears. 😀

I love this idea. I finally implemented it. I had some issues with Parental Controls not allowing me to access https (email, freelance work sites, etc.).
Its use is for more than blogging; I want to use it for the translation work that I do which necessitates logging into email and other https sites, however, the fact that I created a separate account with limited folders and apps helps me to be self-disciplined if tempted to visit sites that are out of my objectives.
I would also like to add that this article was easy to find by searching “Jonathan Malm distractions”.
Thanks!
Haha. Awesome! I’m surprised how much comes up for that search topic. Apparently I’m really distracting. 🙂
