Metta World Peace. That’s what NBA Basketball player, Ron Artest, changed his name to. Apparently he got tired with the massive name recognition and wanted to change it up a bit. He got bored.
That’s what happens when you don’t have a vision for your life–for your art. You find yourself jumping between mediums. You reinvent yourself every month because you’re bored.
We can’t afford to “get bored” if we want to make meaningful art. We need to have a vision for our work, and devote ourselves to it. This doesn’t mean there isn’t room for variety and trying new things. But we shouldn’t be destroying all our progress each month because we don’t have to conviction to see our vision through.
Write down your vision for your art. Stick it up on your wall, your mirror and your speedometer. Work toward your vision. Push through the resistance that wants you to get bored. Be yourself and create something that matters.
