I was approached by a guy wanting to start a blog just like this one. Was I threatened? No way. I Skyped with him and tried to help him make his blog as good as it can be. Competition isn’t a threat.
We’ve been trained to believe competition is a bad thing. There’s always a protagonist and an antagonist. The hero and the villain. Apple and Microsoft. Or Microsoft and Apple, depending on what side you’re on.
But competition isn’t a good versus evil thing. It’s a challenge to get better.
Competition forces us to innovate to survive. When we could risk stagnation, competition forces us to create.
Think of it in Apple/Microsoft terms. Neither operating system is that much better than the other. But because of their rivalry, you have super fans on both sides of the fence. Both companies are actively trying to outmaneuver each other.
There is room for both companies. And computers would not be where they are today without those two companies.
It’s not survival of the fittest. It’s survival of those willing to compete. Are you willing to compete? Are you willing to get better?
