Echo Conference went phenomenally. There are things we’re tweaking for next year. We have a list of ways we can improve. But it truly went well.
It was a very different experience, working behind the scenes. I got to experience so very little of the conference. And I had short bits of time where I met tons of people. I had to juggle greeting people, making them feel welcomed, and responding to technical emergencies that arose for the main sessions. There were times I felt like I was getting pulled in a thousand different directions.
My job was to make sponsors, attendees, volunteers, and the staff feel loved, excited, and motivated during the conference. Me and the team were hosting a party of over 1,000 people. Challenging? You bet. But the deep dark truth is this: I absolutely loved it.
I was worn out after the event. But if you asked me to do that again next week, I’d jump at the opportunity. My inner extrovert became more and more energized as the room filled up. I barely even had much coffee. I was getting fueled from people.
It turns out, this directing a conference thing is well within my rhythm. My heart beats at this pace and for this type of thing. So it worked. It just worked.
I’m not saying my job is perfect. In fact, this next few weeks will be rather laborious – reviewing the conference and picking it apart to see what we can do better. We’ll review surveys, financial data, and scrutinize areas where I fell short.
But I welcome all that stuff. Because it’s part of what lets me function in my rhythm next year. All that stuff is about my passion…so it works.
Here’s the point. You need to find your rhythm. What energizes you? What energizes you about your job?
Then find out how you can function in that rhythm. How can you order your job where the laborious bits fuel the passionate bits?
That’s where your sweet spot lies.
I got to be there for a day and it was amazing. Thanks for all the hard work you put into the conference to make it what it was.
