Sometimes our creative blocks come from narrow thinking. We live in a very broad and spacious world. But when we get too focused on one aspect of the world, we get tunnel vision. It’s easy to fill our minds with business principles and see nothing else. Or we fill our minds with bands we’re wanting to emulate. We get so hyper-focused that we lose touch with the rest of the world. And we get creative block.
One of the easiest ways to overcome narrow thinking is by exploring outside of our particular tunnels. Chances are that your friends are all living in the same tunnel with you. So you need to find another way.
That’s the beauty of a book. A book can transport us to different worlds with ease. We don’t have to struggle to make the right connections or friends, they make themselves readily available in book form.
So hit up your favorite bookstore. Visit the “popular books” section, and buy a book you wouldn’t otherwise read. Then explore. As you immerse yourself in its world, you’ll find your tunnel keeps widening. Eventually you’ll be able to see the sun again.

Interesting that you point this out. I actually have one im reading right now for a Christianity & The Media class at school. It’s called Beyond Ideology, and talks about bias in the news. I wouldn’t normally pick it up and read it, but I am trying to expand my knowledge of the newsroom/journalistic area of media.
It’s great so far. Helping me see a lot that I haven’t thought about before.
Also something I struggle with is only reading “Christian” books. There is so much more out there that is worth reading! 🙂
Definitely. All truth has been given to us…we’re stewards of it. So we need to be open to even “secular” truth…as long as it’s truth its for us 🙂
