God created me with sweaty palms. I always joke that it keeps my hands baby smooth. Which is true. But I think God gave me sweaty palms to remind me of something. He doesn’t want me to hold onto things too tightly. He doesn’t want my iron clad grip to keep my from letting go of things after they’ve run their course. So my hands are slippery…
People are always holding tightly to things. We hold on to successes, positions, even hurts… We don’t want to let them go because we feel in control when we hold them. These things are familiar and comfortable to us.
But the problem is, we can’t grab onto something new if we’re holding on to the old things.
When I’m playing on monkey bars, I can’t progress if I keep holding onto the same two bars. I need to let go of the old bar so I can swing to the new bar. It’s scary. It requires a bit of faith. It requires leaving your comfort zone.
It’s the same way when God wants us to let go of things. He has something new for us…but sometimes we can’t see it immediately. We can’t always see it until after we’ve let go of the last rung and have started swinging forward.
Scary, huh?
But that’s how faith works. It’s trusting that God has a new rung for you when you’re willing to let go. It’s trusting that the new rung is progress.
We must be willing to let go of hurts. Forgive those folks who wronged you and move forward.
We also need to be willing to let go of good things that have run their course. Maybe you’re holding onto a job position or a relationship that you need to let go of.
I encourage you. Let go. Give those rungs to God. He’ll bring them back to you if it’s right and the right time. But trusting in Him is far greater than dangling from the same two rungs your whole life.
I’m on the edge of a leap of faith myself. It’s scary. I will actually be visiting Dallas in a couple weeks to explore a new opportunity. I know you’re close by. I’d love to connect with you in some way and get your thoughts on the area and my pursuit. Feel free to shoot me an email.
Either way, thanks for this post!
