Did you know the Russians invented bungee jumping to replace parachutes? They couldn’t create an effective parachute so they created the bungee chord to assist their troops’ airplane ejections.
At least that’s what the guy at the gas station checkout counter told me. I’m not sure how I got into that conversation, but I walked away knowing that guy was either severely misinformed or a genius.
He argued his story with such conviction. If he was messing with me his story-telling was brilliant. He told it in such a way I actually doubted my own beliefs.
When was the last time you told a story with such conviction? We are artists. We are storytellers. Whether our stories are truth or fantasy, we want to deeply affect our audience.
What was the last good story you told?

Last good story I told was for a message illustration I used when speaking to our student community last week. We were speaking about going after the write things but in the wrong ways and the story was about me planning to hunt dove in here in KY during dove season. Now hunting is huge here in KY and I was so excited and slightly influenced by one of my friends and I stood up in the front seat of his convertible and shot a dove off of a power line as we were driving! It was a great shot and the adrenaline was rushing! We came back later to claim our prize and BAM, a conservation officer stopped us. That bird cost us 185 dollars! Not only was i breaking the law but I was going after shooting dove the WRONG WAY! I love how creative stories can open up peoples eyes and get them to grab a hold of the big idea.
Haha…wow! Expensive illustration!

Great thought, Jonathan. I read a definition of creativity the other day that stated true creativity affects those who consume it. I thought that was really neat, and plays well with your post here.
I appreciate your work on Church Stage Designs and your thoughts here. Thanks for writing. Keep going.
True…creativity isn't good unless it resonates with the audience. 🙂 Love working with folks in the creative community! 🙂
