There are three different people who can set your agenda. And it matters who you choose, because it will result in varying degrees of freedom. Let me tell you the first two… We’ll get to the third at the end.
Other people can set your agenda, or you can set your agenda. By agenda, I’m talking about structure for you life. If you don’t set your own life structure, others will set it for you. For instance, if you don’t set a budget, circumstances will determine where your money goes.
If you don’t learn how to save for a car, the loan company will start “saving” for that car for you through car payments.
If you don’t set your daily agenda, email or other people’s requests will set your agenda for you.
The first option is passive. The second option is proactive.
That’s why I’m working to always set my own daily structure, my own agenda. Of course I incorporate the things I need to do for work, for my wife, for my church… all of that. But I determine the priorities. The structure set for me and the structure set for myself might look similar, but the small differences are where all the freedom is. Instead of being a slave to my agenda, my agenda serves me.
This is where you start. If others are setting your agenda for you, take back control and organize for yourself.
But now back to the third option. More freedom comes when you set your own agenda. But the maximum amount of freedom comes from this third option: God setting your agenda.
Once you set your agenda, you should give it to God. Let Him determine what you should and shouldn’t do. And yes, your agenda will probably look pretty similar after this process. But in those small changes, that’s where the complete freedom is.
You have three options when it comes to setting your agenda:
- Let others do it for you.
- Set it yourself.
- Or let God tell you what’s important.
Opt for the third option. I guarantee you will experience freedom like no other.
