I enjoy stop lights. Let me modify that statement. I enjoy stop lights when I have my iPhone. Stop lights are the perfect chance to tweet, play Scrabble, or reply to emails. I’m never really bored with my pal, the iPhone. That’s a problem.
Boredom is one of the keys to creativity.
Boredom gives you the nudge you need to do something. I’m dissatisfied when I’m bored. Something has to change.
But when we bury our heads in texting and playing games every free second, we lose the opportunity to let boredom do its work. Resist the temptation to entertain yourself the next time you’re bored. Don’t turn on the Food Network. Don’t play Words With Friends. Slow down and be bored!
Shut off the noise. Sit in an unentertaining room. Be bored until you start thinking. Your brain will quickly pick up the slack to get rid of your boredom. You’ll start daydreaming or formulating ideas. Boredom will birth brilliant ideas–if you let it into your life once in a while.
Do you ever let yourself get bored?
I need to make myself bored more often.
I need to make myself bored more often.
SO very true.
SO very true.
once a spy movie inspired me with this line: “if you’re on time, then you’re at least 15 minutes late.” so i started a habit of going early for my appointments. then suddenly those 10-30mins early arrival becomes a much appreciated gems. not only i look cooler (of course, i’m not rushing, been all prepared and looking good etc etc), but almost half of my working ideas were started from that small window of boredom.

“Your brain will quickly pick up the slack to get rid of your boredom. ” Well said, my friend. I experience this often on my 30 minute commute to work. And I love every minute of it!
Boredom is a gift from God. 🙂

I’m always struggling to find something do in my free time. I really need to learn to just slow down.
Yep. I think we need to slow down when we have down time…and speed up when we have up time. It’s about doing the right things at the right time. 🙂
