Want to be everyone’s best friend? Incorporate these seven sentences into your everyday conversations.
Seriously, employees, the boss that hates you will start loving you. Mothers-in-law, your daughter-in-law will want to spend all their time with you if you say these things. Men, your wife will finally see how amazing you are if you start saying:
- You can do it
- I believe in you
- You’re doing a great job
- I accept you no matter what
- You are so good at…
- I’m proud of you
- I’m on your team
Seriously, those seven phrases will make anyone want to be around you. If you regularly say those to the important people in your life, I guarantee your relationships will be phenomenal.
The problem is, we don’t normally default to saying those things. Instead, we choose to give rr unsolicited opinions or advice. We look for ways to help our friends and family improve. Consequently, what comes across to them is “you aren’t good enough”.
Our motives are pure. But what’s communicated isn’t. Instead, our words of wisdom come across as discouragement.
My new personal goal is to only give my opinion when people ask—and I mean really ask. Because honestly, many times when people ask me what I think, they don’t really want to know. They just want encouragement.
But there’s nothing wrong with encouragement. We live in a discouraging world. So be encouraging!
These are the types of people I want to spend my time with. And this is the type of person I want to be. Wouldn’t you agree?
What would you add to this list? What phrase or sentence makes you come alive when the people around you say it?
Hey man…great article. I knew you could do it though…because, let’s face it, I believe in you. You’re doing a great job on this blog and, even if you didn’t, I accept you no matter what. You are so good at helping people helping me become everyone’s best friend. I’m proud of you. It’s a privilege to be on your team.
See what I did there? : )
Bro. Can I buy you lunch tomorrow? 😛
